Naviance
For those of you who are new to PHS and as a refresher to returning students and parents, Naviance is college planning software that PHS offers to all students at no charge. As a freshman, every PHS student is given a Naviance account. Parents can also request a code to create their own account. Through this site, students and their families can research colleges and start building a list of colleges they are interested in. Senior year, we use Naviance to send transcripts and letters of recommendation to colleges electronically. Check out Naviance at www.naviance.com (click Sign In at the top - Students & Families Sign In). If you ever forget your login information, please see Mrs. Czech or your school counselor.

New Faces in the Counseling Office
Please welcome Lauren Phillips our new intern within the counseling office. She is working on her Masters in School Counseling at BGSU and is very excited to be working with Perrysburg High School. You may see her around the school working with students on various projects including counseling, college advising projects, enrichment days, group counseling and much more! She will be a great resource to the students, parents and community of Perrysburg. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

Megan Lazor comes to us from Woodland Elementary School as our new School Counseling Secretary. She was a kindergarten monitor for four years prior to her new position. She and her husband have lived in Perrysburg for 14 years and have two daughters in the district. She is thrilled and excited to be at the high school and is looking forward to working with the students, parents and staff.

Olweus Bullying Prevention Program
The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program has been implemented within our school district. The goal of this program is to bring awareness to staff and students and provide positive supports to address the issues of bullying. The high school will have an Olweus kick-off event on Monday, August 31st and run a pep rally schedule that day. There will be class meetings throughout the year to address the various issues and build a positive culture within our high school.

Junior/Senior College Planning Timelines
Not sure what you should be doing to prepare for college? Use these helpful college planning timelines to keep on track!
College Essay
During the second or third week of school, senior English classes will be working on their college essay. This is a great time for seniors to write something that will showcase who they are and what is unique to them.

Spotlight On… Washington University in St. Louis
A medium-sized (around 14,000 students), independent university located in the nation's center, Washington University is counted among the world's leaders in teaching, research, patient care and service to society. They have an 8:1 student faculty ratio. Professor Joseph F. Loewenstein describes the institution as “small enough that we can know our students’ names and stories, yet large enough to support scholarly research across a broad range of specialties.”

Wash U has Academic Divisions of Art & Architecture, Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Social Work & Public Health. U.S. News and World Report ranked Washington University #1 for Social Work in 2013. Professor Loewenstein mentions: “We take pride in supporting students whose interests straddle disciplines: musician-scientists, politicians-historians, physicists-classicists, feminists-linguists.”

Wash U is competitive from an admissions perspective with a 16% acceptance rate last year. The middle 50% testing ranges for ACT is 32-34.

Some of the words Wash U’s academic deans used to describe their students included collaborative, seekers, engaging, curious and busy.
