Perrysburg Schools and Teachers’ Union agree to new Contract

Perrysburg Board of Education is pleased to adopt a three-year Master Agreement with Perrysburg Education Association (PEA), the school district’s teachers’ union.

“This contract strikes just the right balance between recognizing the value of our excellent teachers and certified staff members and being fiscally responsible with the school district’s budget,” stated Thomas L. Hosler, Superintendent.

The contract will implement a new pay structure that merges the two current pay structures. Under the new Perrysburg Compensation and Performance Plan (P-CAPP), teachers have the opportunity to earn Perrysburg Performance Points for high performance in areas of professional growth, organizational citizenship, collaboration, good attendance and student achievement growth. For the coming school year, teachers will receive a 1.4% pay increase, 1.85% is scheduled for 2017-18 and 2018-19.

The new contract also includes concessions on healthcare. For insurance coverage, copays and deductibles will see an increase, as well as the cost of prescription drugs, and a high-deductible health plan was added for interested employees.

The district has a spousal mandate, which means if an employee’s spouse is offered insurance through his or her employer where the employer pays 60% (formerly 70% under the previous contract), s/he would need to sign up for single coverage there but can still be on Perrysburg Schools’ family plan as a secondary policy.

“Bargaining is never easy, but the negotiation teams for the Board and the PEA worked hard to reach this settlement,” stated Mr. Hosler. “The salary settlement is respectful of the times that we live in, given the community’s improving economic condition. It is our aim that our employees will continue to feel valued and rewarded, and we’re glad to keep the performance pay as a part of that system. This contract enables us to recognize those who go above and beyond as well as recruit the talent we need to continue to remain a destination district.”
