PJHS STEM visits O-I

Perrysburg Junior High School STEM Program visits O-I

O-I’s Global Technology (GT) and Information Technology (IT) departments recently teamed up to host 42 girls from the Perrysburg Junior High School STEM Program for the second year. This STEM program introduces young girls to more educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The size of the STEM program doubled from the prior year, allowing O-I the opportunity to expand the tour offerings available to the students.

The afternoon consisted of four stations for each of the girls to visit. The stations included:
• A tour of the Innovation Center
• A tour of the Glass Science and Materials Labs
• Using “The Mix” in Plaza 3 to connect with an employee in Peru
• A training session on how to use HTML and Java

The afternoon ended with a question and answer session in which the girls were able to ask questions of all the volunteers, regarding what they saw throughout the day or educational topics. Overall, there were a total of 16 employee volunteers from GT and IT who participated in the event.

“It is overwhelming to see so many young female students interested in STEM. We are so excited to be able to provide them with the opportunity to see what O-I can offer for future career opportunities,” said Teresa Zielinski, Human Resources Generalist for GT.

The volunteers included: Anil Sreevilasam, Jenny Thompson, Veronica Millon, Andrea Altenburg, Sara Floyd, Adrienne Serio, Angie Pitt, Andrea Sears, Heather Lane, Jillian Gustafson, Fay Richardson, Debbie Freeworth, Katie Ranck, William Besancon and Teresa Zielinski.
