LIBRARY-MEDIA CENTER
Hours--Monday - Friday, 7:15 A.M. - 2:45 P.M.
Classroom Use of Media Center--
Please sign up at least three (3) days in advance with the media supervisor and advise the staff about the class project and the number of students expected. You must accompany the class and provide supervision. Unless extenuating circumstances exist the library will not close when a teacher reserves it for research and up to two classes may be brought the library during any given period. It will be necessary to limit the number of student who do not have specific library assignments on days teachers bring in classes. During Freshmen Orientation, library personnel will be teaching and student use will be limited to those students with specific library assignments
Orientation--
Media Center orientations begin in the fall for freshmen English classes. However, teachers are encouraged to bring classes in for more specific orientations. These sessions are the most productive when they precede a project or paper.
Lesson Units--
Let the media supervisor know what you are teaching in your classroom. The library may have books and magazines that could help with lesson plans and the compiling of selected bibliographies.
Reserve Materials--
Materials may be placed on overnight reserve and one day loan status for your class. Please come in well in advance to select what will be needed.
Ordering Materials--
Suggestions for purchase of books, non-print materials, and equipment, throughout the year, may be submitted to the media supervisor. All non-print materials must be previewed before ordering. Forms are located in the Media Center.
Audiovisuals--
l. Each teacher will receive a list of all the audio visual materials, hardware and software, housed in the Media Center.
2. Classroom audio-visual equipment requests must be made at least one (l) day in advance. Scheduling of equipment is done by the media supervisor and is on a first-come-first serve basis.
3. Audio-visual software can be secured for use by filling out a request form and presenting it at least one (l) day in advance. All requests will be available before school the following day. REQUESTS FOR THE SAME DAY WILL NOT BE HONORED.
4. Other services of the Media Center include dry mounting, laminating, and instructional use of equipment and non-print media and the scheduling of the conference room.
5. Teachers are encouraged to preview all materials before using them. Teachers MUST preview all non-print materials that are under consideration for purchase. Submit preview requests as early in the year as possible for your department chairperson.
6. It is not appropriate to leave audio-visual equipment unattended.
7. If any equipment is in need of any repair, please bring it to the attention of the media supervisor.
Student Admittance--Admission to the library is under a free system whereby a student merely signs the sign-in-sheet before the first period for that day. No pass is required except when a student is coming in during his/ her lunch. During the lunch period, the lunch student who wants to use the library must obtain a pass from one of his teachers and present the pass to the librarian. Students who are tardy to library will not be admitted.
Loan Period--Fiction and non-fiction may be loaned for two weeks. An additional two-week renewal may be granted if the material is not in demand. A fine of five cents a day is charged for late return. No renewals are made for overnight materials. Overnight materials are due before school begins the next morning. Magazines may be checked out for three days at a time and may be renewed if needed. Each student is responsible for all materials charged out in his name and library privileges will be denied to those students that take advantage of the library and its uses.
VIDEO TAPING/PLAYBACK
The procedure for video taping of television programs, plays, and athletic events is as follows:
The media center will be responsible for any video taping ONLY during the school hours of 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. One exception to this policy would be the use of the video timer with the video equipment. This timer enables us to tape one (l) hour program nightly, Monday through Friday ONLY. This service would be on a first-come-first-serve basis due to the fact that we only have one timer.
It will be the responsibility of the INDIVIDUAL TEACHER to tape the program he or she desires since students will no longer be permitted to take out video equipment to their homes. The teacher may take out any of the video equipment to his or her home for taping individual programs for class use but all equipment must be returned the following morning.
Athletic events, plays, band, etc. would have access to the porta-pack unit and this would be used for all OUTSIDE activities. Students may be used for this taping, but must attend a workshop prior to their taking the equipment out. It would be advisable for coaches or the band director to select students early in the year for this taping and have them come to the media center for the training.
Requests for video taping during the school day must be filled out at
least two (2) days prior to the program or event. Due to the availability
of equipment and manpower, this would be on a first-come- first-serve basis.
