CLASSROOM CRITERIA

PHS Teacher Handbook

Classroom criteria are to be used in conjunction with the Classroom Observation Report. The criteria are meant to help clarify and define the observation categories. The purposes of the lists in the job description are to:

1. serve as criteria for teachers in preparing, implementing and evaluating their own lessons

2. serve as criteria for building administrators in conducting classroom observations and in preparing written reports of these observations

3. clarify to all staff members the expectations of the Board of Education and the Superintendent concerning the instructional responsibilities of teachers.

In Perrysburg it is expected that teachers use discretion and professional judgment, even if criteria are not specifically identified.

It should be understood by all staff members that incorporated into this document is much of the latest research on instructional effectiveness. It should also be understood that there is no expectation from administrators that all criteria would or should be found in any one lesson. As criteria, they allow for and encourage differences in individual teaching styles. They also serve as a resource for teachers to use in selecting components from the scientific research as tools for developing and orchestrating their own unique artistry in teaching.
