ATTENDANCE AND TARDY PROCEDURES AND POLICIES
Revised: December 10, 1997
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE
Attendance is to be taken each period and properly reported on the attendance reporting form. Any student not in your class is to be reported as absent regardless of the reason (i.e. field trip, college visitation etc.) .If the student is not physically in the room he/she is to be marked absent. If you have marked a student absent and the student arrives late you must mark the student tardy. You do not have to erase the absent mark because the computer assumes the tardy takes precedence over the absence and will ignore the absence mark if the tardy is also marked. (see appendix 23).
ATTENDANCE POLICY
The Perrysburg Board of Education believes it is reasonable to require school and class attendance as a minimal requirement for the granting of credit. Therefore the following attendance requirements are established:
10 days of absence in a semester - parent notification & counselor contact
15 days of absence in a semester - parent notification, counselor, school administration contact, and future absences will require a doctor's certification or the student will be considered truant from school.
19 and above days of absence in a semester - no credit in the course without tutoring (one hour per five days per class). Tutoring will be the student or his/her parents' responsibility.
Excused absence - Parents have contacted the school and informed the school of the student's absence due to illness, death in the family, religious holiday, or emergencies. The student will incur no penalty and will be afforded an opportunity to make up all missed work.
Unexcused absence - Parents have failed to informed the school of an excusable absence or parents have informed the school of an absence which the state does not recognize as an excusable absence. This includes personal convenience absences with parental permission. The student will incur no penalty but the make up of missing work will be at the discretion of the teacher. Students will be permitted to make up major tests or projects.
Truancy - Parents have failed to inform the school of an unexcusable absence and/or the student is found to have left school or class without permission. - Truancy from school or class, student will have no make up privileges for missed work and will receive one of the following penalties:
First offense will result in two (2) hours of detention being assigned for each hour or part of an hour missed by the student.
Second offense will result in the student being suspended three (3) days from school with an option to participate in the Saturday School Program.
Third offense will result in the student receiving a ten (10) day suspension from school with no option for Saturday School participation.
STUDENT PERSONAL CONVENIENCE ABSENCE
Absence from school for student and/or parent personal convenience is not provided for under the school attendance laws of the State of Ohio. Therefore, the absence under this category are considered unexcused and parents are asked to complete a Personal Convenience Absence form (see appendix 29) prior to the date of the absence. The absence will be unexcused, but will not be considered truant. The student will be permitted to make up major assignments, but the acceptance of daily work for grading will be up to the individual teacher.
TARDINESS PROCEDURES
Any student arriving to school during first period will report directly to their first period class. The first period teacher will mark their attendance reporting form appropriately.
Students who arrive after first period MUST report to the office for an admission pass. Failure to report to the office to secure an admission pass will result in the student being considered TRUANT.
TARDY POLICY
The only excused tardy is a verified doctor's or court appointment. Although tardiness is discouraged and may reflect on future patterns and endeavors, the administration is aware that students may be tardy to school due to circumstance beyond their control (i.e. automobile malfunctions, alarm failures, power outages, personal illness, etc.) Therefore, the procedures for tardiness to school reflects an adjustment to compensate for those above mentioned tardies. The tardiness procedures are as follows:
Tardy to School
1-4 Assumed to be emergencies no school action
5 Parent notification
6-8 Two (2) hours detention
9+ Three (3) day suspension/Sat. school per each tardy
