Clubs & Activities

Perrysburg Junior High School offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as music, academic clubs and sports for students to learn the values of teamwork, responsibility, physical strength and endurance, competition, diversity, and a sense of culture and community. These activities reinforce the lessons learned in the classroom, where students apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered an important part of the Junior High experience.

Girls STEM Club
This is a science club for female students at Perrysburg Junior High School. Participants have the chance to compete against other members in science-related events; tap into STEM resources in our area; participate in Citizen Science activities; plan, develop and facilitate project-based and inquiry-based activities; work with a mentor scientist and have a whole lot of fun while thinking and learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Mock Trial
Students act as witnesses and attorneys to argue cases involving popular literary characters. Students read and analyze witness statements drawn from the characters in the books, which culminates at a state showcase in Columbus.

World Language Club
World Language Club is for students who are interested in learning more about different languages and cultures from around the world. The World Language Club will engage in fun and culturally-relevant activities to promote extended learning of the French, Spanish and Chinese language and culture. Among activities to be included are celebrations, holidays, foods and customs. The World Language Club will be directed by the PJHS Foreign Language teachers.

Yearbook
Students interested in photography, writing and design would enjoy being a part of the yearbook staff. This team meets once per week, and members are responsible for capturing the year's most memorable moments. Students involved in this activity must be comfortable interviewing people and taking photographs in both small and large group settings.

Academic Clubs

Quiz Bowl
This club competes with several other junior high and middle schools in a "Jeopardy"-type question format. The Quiz Bowl season runs from September through November. The teams usually practice on Mondays and Wednesdays. Meets are on Mondays in October and November.

Math Counts
Math Counts is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition. Students stay after school and complete complicated math problems. This group is ideal for students who have a talent and passion for math who want to be challenged. Perrysburg Junior High Math Counts team competes at The University of Toledo Nitschke Auditorium for the Toledo Area Chapter Competition. The winning team and the top four individuals advance to the State Math Counts competition at Columbus State Community College.

Pen Ohio
Pen Ohio is an interscholastic creative writing competition that is unique to the State of Ohio. It was founded to give creative writers an outlet and a competition where they may put their skills to the test against other writers. There are three events during the Pen Ohio tournament year: the district event, the regional event and the state finals. Students must earn their way to the regional and state events. After the district event, the top 50% of writers move on to the regional event. Only 20% of writers will move on from the regionals to the state final competition in Clumbus in May. Perrysburg has been very successful in the past, taking multiple writers to the state level competition every year.

Athletic / Movement Clubs

Winter Running Club
Members of the Winter Running Club are challenged to run during the months of January and February. They may choose their own goal, anywhere between 20 miles and 150 miles. A maximum of 5 miles per day and/or 20 miles a week is allowed. This is a great way to prepare for a spring sport, or to simply get in shape for the New Year.
